Tesla Cybertruck Canada Display Model: 7 Key Takeaways

The Cybertuck has landed in Canada and this past weekend, I made the trip out to Langley BC to check it out. I lined up with other curious fans and those waiting on Tesla Cybertruck Canada delivery dates to get a first look at this futuristic ride.

Here are my key takeaways from checking out Canada’s first Cybertruck on display.

Update: Tesla Confirms Cybertruck Orders for Canadian Customers

Tesla has officially begun inviting Cybertruck reservation holders in Canada and Mexico to place their orders for the highly anticipated Foundation Series Cyberbeast and All-Wheel Drive (AWD) Cybertrucks. This development, confirmed on August 8, 2024, marks a significant step for Canadian customers eagerly awaiting the futuristic vehicle. Although the email sent to reservation holders did not disclose the final price, some have already received their invitations and discovered that the cost is substantial.

The AWD Cybertruck is priced at $137,990 CAD, while the tri-motor CyberBeast model is priced at $165,990 CAD. These prices can escalate significantly when factoring in taxes. The good news, though, is that the federal luxury tax won’t apply. So, depending on the province, the total cost for the AWD Cybertruck could range from $165,000 to $175,000 CAD, while the CyberBeast could reach between $200,000 and $220,000 CAD.

The First Cybertruck in Canada?

Although there have been Cybertruck sightings in the past while Tesla was testing and there is one currently roaming Quebec, I was told by staff at the Langley, BC sales centre that this was indeed the first Tesla Cybertruck Canada has seen on display. More should follow as we near the November 30th delivery date event.

Cybertruck Frist Impressions

As I queued up and walked around this curious new Tesla, a few things jumped out at me.

@myevtrips Canada's first Tesla Cybertruck! 😮🍁 Not as huge in person, but that single wiper? Absolutely comically large! First impressions, it’s a fingerprint magnet, so wrap it up! Noticed a few panel gaps, but still hyped to see this on the roads! #Cybertruck #FirstLook #TeslaCanada #tesla #cybertruckdelivery #TechInnovations #FutureRide #CarEnthusiast #TeslaNation ♬ CYBERTRUCK – Bad Bunny

1) The Cybertruck is Big, but…

One, the Cybertruck is big but surprisingly not as big in person. I don’t know if it is the sharp angles or odd shape but photos I have seen to date make it appear larger than it is in life.

Still, the Cybertruck measures 231.7 in (5,890 mm) long by 79.8 in (2,030 mm) wide and is 75 in (1,900 mm) tall at its peak. This is very comparable to the Ford Lightning in size which is smaller than a lot of the pickup trucks on the market. The Ford Lightning is 232.7 in (5,911 mm) L x 80 in (2,032 mm) W x 79 in (2,004 mm) H.

In comparison, the Dodge Ram specs range from 229-242 in (5,814-6,142 mm) L x 82-88 in (2,084-2,235 mm) W x 77-81 in (1,966-2,055 mm) H.

2) The Cybertruck Wiper is MASSIVE

The vehicle itself may not be overly large but the Cybertruck wiper certainly is!

As I made my way around the front of the vehicle I couldn’t help but laugh out loud and the comically large Cybertruck windshield wiper. It’s a ridiculous addition but, I mean, it is a ridiculous vehicle so…

Having a giant wiper wasn’t in the initial plans for the Cybertruck. Originally there weren’t going to be wipers at all, but rather a laser system to repel rain and snow. Assumably, this didn’t meet the grade and is probably for the best for those Tesla Cybertruck Canada reservation holders in locations with extreme climate swings.

That all said, from the front, this thing just looks cool. I really like the light bar.

3) The Cyber Truck Has Sharp Corners

Coming around the side I could see that the edges of the panels are not angeled off and, can only imagine how sharp the edges are. As a company notorious for panel gaps, I can see people getting their clothes (or worse) snagged passing by. Curious if anyone can verify this theory. I wasn’t brave enough to reach beyond the protective rope to test this out.

4) The Cybertruck is a Fingerprint Magnet

That said, some people were brave enough (or rude?) and put their hands on the Tesla Cybertruck Canada display model. There was plenty of evidence of this on the vehicle with prints and palms plastered throughout. Needless to say, this stainless steel fridge on wheels is a fingerprint magnet.

With the introduction of Tesla wraps directly from the factory, Tesla is well aware of this issue and is charging the consumer more to resolve it. For those Cybertruck Canada reservation holders and future owners, I suggest getting your vehicle wrapped after delivery.

The cost from the factory is pretty steep and initial reports show the wrap quality isn’t there. If you are in the Vancouver lower mainland area, I can recommend Twiisted Wrap. They did an excellent job wrapping my Model Y and they offer readers of staging.myevtrips.com a discount.

5) Cybertruck Panel Gaps are a Thing

Coming around to the backend of the Cybertruck I noticed the first glaring alignment issue. The trunk gate on the passenger side had a significantly larger gap than on the driver’s side.

Now, that said, Tesla is known to have these issues with first-run vehicles. I certainly noticed a HUGE improvement in quality between my first-of-the-line 2020 Model Y vs. my 2022 Model Y.

Also, visibly, the Tesla Cybertruck Canada display model looks to be much better built than the very first Tesla Model Y on display in Vancouver which I visited in 2020. So, progress?

6) Cybertruck Wheels May Not Be As Unique As Reported

Everything about the Cybertruck is rugged and futuristic, even the wheels.

As per Electrek, the Cybertruck was speculated to come with an automatic inflation system`. There was also speculation that the tires would be specially designed and airless.

This Tesla Cybertruck Canada display model is equipped with Goodyear tires that have visible nozzles so this may not be the case. Also missing in the display model is the wheel covers.

Tesla Car World does a great job breaking down these futuristic Cybertruck tires in the YouTube video below however it is unclear to me what is actually on the truck. If anyone can confirm, let me know in the comments below!

7) There Are Still Cybertruck Questions

The confusion around the wheels isn’t the only thing unanswered after seeing the first Tesla Cybertruck Canada display model in person. We weren’t able to look inside the interior which, despite lots of leaks online, is odd and leaves some unanswered questions.

The sales team on hand wasn’t able to answer much other than providing an iPad to grab contact info for future interest.

I was advised that Tesla owners or Cybertruck Canada reservation holders will get first dibs once the display model is available for test drives and that they would be contacted. Still, a couple of big questions loom.

Tesla Cybertruck Price in Canada

The Tesla Cybertruck price in Canada and beyond is still unknown. This will be revealed at the delivery event on November 30th, 2023.

Tesla Cybertruck Canada Delivery Date

Similar to the unknown Tesla Cybertruck Canada price tag, delivery dates and how that will ramp up are unknown. Elon Musk did admit to some production issues so I would expect a slow rollout.

Are You a Tesla Cybertruck Reservation Holder?

What say you? Did you put a deposit down on a Tesla Cybertruck? Are you worried about the unknowns or are you just excited that the end is finally near?? I would love to hear from you, especially if you are in the LMD area and are interested in sharing your experience! Let me know in the comments below or reach out!

Update: My take on CBC!

Here’s a little clip of my chat with CBC radio on the Cybertruck. My thoughts on why the truck market might be hard to crack didn’t get flushed out but the point is there.
